Option available to reload automatically last model used when opening GiD. This option can be activated in the preferences window. Just go from the top menu to Utilities->Preferences, select the  General->Other branch and check the Reload last model option.  

Anytime user is making a selection inside GiD (geometry or mesh entities), the selection window can be used to apply useful filters to the selection. This option can be activated in preprocess mode selecting the menu Utilities->Tools->Selection window. It can also be activated from the contextual menu, clicking with the right mouse button.   

Imagine you want to apply a boudary condition in a mesh but you have elements with all its nodes in the boundary. This will cause a calculation problem because the value of the element is the interpolation of the values of its nodes. You can avoid this problem generating a proper mesh without elements with all

You can swap between fast and save visualization modes with just a button. Find it at the bottom right corner of the GiD window. Layer in preprocess can be organized as a tree.

In GiD the model can be set as an anaglyphic image in order to provide a stereoscopic 3D effect, when viewed with 2 color glasses (each lens a chromatically opposite color, usually red and cyan).
